OCEANSIDE, Calif. — November 3, 2026.Laura Bassett, a Republican candidate and longtime Oceanside resident, appears on the November 3 ballot for California Senate District 38 against Democratic incumbent Catherine S. Blakespear.

An Oceanside-based candidacy

In her official campaign biography, Bassett identifies herself as a small-business owner, licensed real estate professional, licensed professional fiduciary and San Diego County Civil Service Commissioner. She says she raised six children in the Oceanside area and has been involved in local business and cultural activities.

Her policy priorities

Bassett highlights the cost of living, housing, public safety and the coastline. Her campaign argues for reducing barriers to building homes and resisting new taxes. It also calls for science-based beach restoration and conservation measures, particularly relevant to North County coastal communities. These are positions stated by the candidate, not enacted changes.

Incumbent Blakespear previously served as Encinitas mayor and now campaigns on housing affordability, climate and coastal protection, transportation and public safety. The District 38 electorate also includes coastal communities beyond Oceanside in San Diego and Orange counties.

What is verified about November 3

Bassett’s official site is bassettforca.com. California58 has not independently verified where Bassett personally voted, when she cast a ballot or whether an Election Day social video shows a real voting appearance. The absence of that evidence is not evidence that she did not vote. Official election results, once released, are separate from personal voting reports.
